Frequently asked questions

Everything parents usually want to know before starting or contributing to a teacher collection.

Questions and answers

Is it really free?

Creating a teacher collection is free. There is nothing to pay to set one up or to share it with your class.

How does the collection work?

One parent creates a collection for the teacher, shares the private link with the other families, and everyone adds what they would like along with a message. When the organiser closes the collection, the total is redeemed as a gift for the teacher.

Do contributors need an account?

No. If someone sends you a collection link, you can contribute without creating an account. Organisers set up an account so they can manage the collection.

Can parents leave a message?

Yes. Every contributor can add a short message, and they are kept together so the teacher receives them all at once. Messages are usually the part teachers treasure most.

Is there a minimum contribution?

Each contribution can be from £1 up to £250, and a single collection can hold up to £3,000 in total. Within those limits, families choose whatever they are comfortable with. The organiser can see the contributions and messages added to their collection. Full limits are in our terms.

Is the collection private?

Yes. Collections are visible to people who have the link, so please share it only with families in your class or group. There is no public directory and no way to search for other collections.

Can a contribution be refunded?

Once a contribution is made it generally cannot be cancelled or refunded, except where your statutory rights apply or our terms expressly provide for it, for example where a collection is cancelled or suspended. If you contributed in error or think a collection is not genuine, email support@giftround.co.uk as soon as possible.

Who operates Thank the Teacher?

Thank the Teacher is a service operated by Gift Round Limited, registered in Scotland under company number SC515352.

Is payment secure?

Payments are processed by Ryft Pay Ltd, trading as Ryft. Card details are not stored by Thank the Teacher.

Can the organiser withdraw cash?

No. Thank the Teacher collections are always redeemed as a gift for the teacher rather than paid out as cash to the organiser.

When should we start a teacher collection?

Two to three weeks before the end of term works well. It gives families time to contribute without needing chasing, and leaves a few days to arrange the thank you.

Can we use it for teaching assistants or nursery staff?

Absolutely. Teaching assistants, nursery keyworkers, support staff and clubs leaders can all be thanked in exactly the same way.

Can we create one gift from the whole class?

That is the whole idea. Instead of lots of separate presents, the class gives one gift that the teacher can choose how to use.

What happens if someone does not want to contribute?

That is completely fine. Joining in is optional and nobody needs to give an explanation. The organiser can see who has contributed and the messages left, so organisers are encouraged never to chase or single anyone out.

Contribution limits, refunds and the rules for collections are set out in our terms. Still unsure about something? Read how it works or get in touch.
