Terms & Conditions

1. Who we are

Thank the Teacher is a service operated by Gift Round Limited, a company registered in Scotland under company number SC515352, with its registered office at 49 Castleview Drive, Bridge of Allan, Stirling, Scotland, FK9 4BD. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Gift Round Limited.

2. GiftRound platform terms

Teacher collections are created and managed on GiftRound, the platform operated by Gift Round Limited, and are provided under the full GiftRound platform terms. This page summarises the main points and adds details specific to Thank the Teacher. Please read the full GiftRound platform terms before creating or contributing to a collection.

The GiftRound platform terms also cover matters not repeated here, including user content, intellectual property, termination, notices, liability, data protection and general legal provisions.

3. Definitions

  • Teacher collection means a private collection created through Thank the Teacher for the benefit of a named teacher or member of school or nursery staff.
  • Organiser means the person who creates and manages a teacher collection.
  • Contributor means any person who contributes money to a teacher collection.

4. Private collections only

Collections are for buying a gift within a private group. They are not listed publicly or searchable, and are visible to people who have the link. Share the link only with people connected to the teacher, class or group. Taking part is optional for every family.

Anyone suspected of organising a collection for a cause, charity or campaign, or of inviting people to contribute outside a private group, may have their collection suspended and contributions returned less a 10% administration fee, as set out in the GiftRound platform terms.

Collections must not be used for gambling, gaming or any activity with an entry fee and a prize, including raffles, lotteries, auctions and sweepstakes.

5. Organiser responsibilities

  • You must be 18 or over and live in the UK or the Republic of Ireland to create a collection.
  • You must give accurate information about the teacher, class or group, and keep your account details secure.
  • You must comply with any policy your school, nursery or local authority has about gifts to staff.
  • You are responsible for entering the recipient’s email address correctly.

6. Contributions

  • Contributions are voluntary and made in pounds sterling. Each contribution must be at least £1 and no more than £250.
  • A collection must not exceed £3,000 in total.
  • Contributors must live in, and contribute from, a country supported by our payment provider. Contributions from outside the UK or the Republic of Ireland may incur charges from your bank or card provider.
  • A collection can stay open for up to 60 days from creation. It can be extended, but not beyond 60 days from the date it was created.
  • Payment is made to the collection for the organiser. For contributions, GiftRound acts solely as the disclosed agent of the organiser.

Once made, a contribution cannot be cancelled or refunded, except where your statutory rights apply or where the GiftRound platform terms expressly provide for cancellation or suspension of a collection (including for fraud or misuse). If you contributed in error, or believe a collection is not genuine, email support@giftround.co.uk as soon as possible.

7. Payments

Contributions are processed by Ryft Pay Ltd, trading as Ryft, as our payment service provider. Ryft’s terms and privacy notice apply to your payment and are available at ryftpay.com. We do not store card details.

8. Redemption and gift cards

Collections are redeemed as a gift and cannot be withdrawn as cash. After a collection ends, the organiser has six months to choose the GiftRound FlexCard. After six months the collection is removed from the dashboard and the money is held by GiftRound for a further six months, and then held indefinitely, as described in the GiftRound platform terms.

The maximum value of GiftRound FlexCards in any one order is £1,000. We aim to email the FlexCard to the recipient within 24 hours of a valid request on a business day, or up to 48 hours for requests made at weekends or on public holidays.

Two kinds of card. The GiftRound platform terms distinguish between a GiftRound FlexCard and the retailer e-gift card obtained through redemption. Under those terms, a GiftRound FlexCard is valid for 12 months from the date it is issued. A retailer e-gift card is a separate card: its expiry is the date supplied with it, and the retailer’s own terms apply.

GiftRound FlexCards are provided and operated by Tillo Limited. Tillo’s terms are at tillo.com/terms-conditions. FlexCards cannot be returned, refunded, exchanged for cash or transferred for value, except in line with your statutory rights.

M&S is the redemption destination shown for Thank the Teacher collections. The gift card’s own terms and expiry apply. Thank the Teacher is operated by Gift Round Limited, not M&S. Retailer names and trade marks belong to their owners.

9. Acceptable use

You must not use Thank the Teacher to:

  • Create a collection that is misleading, fraudulent or not for a genuine recipient.
  • Share collection links publicly or with people unconnected to the group.
  • Post messages that are unlawful, abusive, discriminatory or offensive.
  • Collect for public fundraising or charitable causes.

We may cancel a collection and refund contributors, for example where its content is offensive, discriminatory or misleading, as set out in the GiftRound platform terms.

10. Changes to the service

We may discontinue or materially change the service on 30 days’ written notice. Where practicable, existing collections will be allowed to complete first, and gift cards already issued are not affected. Outstanding collections are processed or refunded in line with the GiftRound platform terms.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page when you use the service is the one that applies.

11. Your statutory rights

As set out in the GiftRound platform terms, if you are a consumer, GiftRound is responsible for directly foreseeable loss or damage you suffer as a result of its breach of those terms or its failure to use reasonable care and skill. If you use the service for business purposes, GiftRound’s total liability is limited to £500, as described in the GiftRound platform terms.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, or limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by Scots law, and the courts of Scotland have exclusive jurisdiction, as in the GiftRound platform terms. If you are a consumer, this does not take away any mandatory protection or right to bring proceedings that the law of the country where you live gives you.

13. Contact

Questions about a collection, a contribution or these terms can be sent to support@giftround.co.uk, or through our contact page.
